1. The Tawny Hotel, Staffordshire

The Tawny Hotel is a truly unique experience in rural Staffordshire, UK. It opened in 2021, and is described as a deconstructed hotel – it isn’t one building of hotel rooms, but each guest party has their own hut, treehouse, or lodge. Only a limited number of rooms are dog friendly, which are clearly labelled on their website. I stayed here in 2023 in a Glade hut – you can check out my full review HERE.
Facilities at The Tawny
All the accommodations are spread around 70 acres of immaculately looked after grounds which you can explore. This makes for plenty of beautiful dog walks – or just hop into a golf cart if you have your luggage.
There is a heated outdoor pool complete with changing facilities, and a QR code to order drinks right to your sun lounger. Dogs ARE welcome to join you by the pool, so you can enjoy an afternoon together relaxing in the sun without leaving your pup in your room.
You can go for spa treatments in their Thatched Cottage on-site. Obviously the best thing about staying here is the outdoor copper spa bath with nearly every room. If you want to do all your relaxing in the comfort of your accommodation without leaving your dog, just hop in your private hot tub.
There is an award winning restaurant on-site called the Plumicorn for fine dining, though dogs are not welcome. Therefore we enjoyed delicious cocktails and pizzas in the more casual bar area, and played pool and board games.
This is a must-visit hotel, I can’t wait to go back one day. The space and privacy of having your own hut or lodge is great for dogs, who can be spooked by noises from neighbouring rooms in a traditional hotel. There are plenty of dog friendly spaces though out the grounds of the hotel for your to enjoy together.
2. Saltmoore, North Yorkshire

Situated near Whitby, Saltmoore hotel is a luxurious retreat that blends spa relaxation with dog friendly travel. Set within an expansive estate, it’s perfectly positioned for scenic walks, whether along nearby Sandsend Beach or across the beautiful North Yorkshire moors. Make sure you book one of their designated dog friendly rooms.
Dog friendly features here are genuinely impressive. Your pup can enjoy a cosy bed, food and water bowls, and even join you for dining in certain areas, making it feel like a truly inclusive stay. There’s also easy access to walking routes directly from the hotel grounds, ideal for morning strolls.
Facilities at Saltmoore
The extensive indoor spa features a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, hot tub, ice bath and even a cryotherapy chamber. There is even a wellness cafe at the spa to keep you hydrated and satiated. As expected with an indoor spa – best not to bring your dog along!
With multiple dining options to choose from, only their Brasserie is not dog friendly. Dogs are welcome in their Pizzeria, Orangery and The Beach House restaurants.

3. The Barnsdale, Rutland

The Barnsdale is a very short distance away from Rutland Water. Rutland Water is a fantastic spot in the midlands for walking, cycling, water sports and dog friendly days out. The Barnsdale is a perfect base for outdoor adventures, relaxing in the spa, or delicious dining in their restaurant.
It is a recently refurbished country house hotel with a modern, boutique feel. There is a mix of cosy rooms and larger suites—some with terraces or garden access which is great for dogs. Make sure you specify a dog friendly room when booking. Prices range from £140–£300 per night depending on room and season. I personally stayed here with my dog in 2026 and had a wonderful stay. Facilities at the Barnsdale
The Barnsdale only has one main restaurant and a lounge area, but both are dog friendly. Hotel guests can enjoy a complimentary afternoon tipple in the lounge with their dog at their feet. The main restaurant is completely dog friendly as well, so your dog is welcome to join you for all your meals. This is a nice feature – many hotels don’t allow dogs in their ‘main’ restaurant. During warmer months there is an outdoor courtyard to enjoy too.
The Signet Spa is a newly constructed addition to the hotel. It features a heated outdoor pool, 3 wood fired hot tubs, and a small sauna. There is also a treatment area, and a main spa reception with a relaxation room. The small size of the spa makes it feel quite boutique and luxury in my opinion. Dogs are NOT permitted to join you at the spa, and will need to stay in your room.
The Barnsdale has lots of additional touches to make you feel really welcome. This includes complimentary welly hire for going on walks, Dry Robes to wear outside at the spa on colder days, and a free happy hour drink. It has a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere and is a great choice for dog owners.
4. The Retreat at Elcot Park, Berkshire

Set in 16 acres of beautiful Berkshire countryside, The Retreat at Elcot Park is a stylish country house hotel and spa that’s ideal for a relaxing dog friendly getaway. The hotel has a selection of dog friendly ground floor rooms with outside terrace access, and your four legged friend will receive a welcome pack with a bed, bowls, treats and a towel.
I stayed here for a wedding in 2025, and although I didn’t have my dog the bride & groom’s lovely pooch was part of the wedding party and had a great stay here.
Facilities at The Retreat
Along with the extensive hotel grounds, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the surrounding countryside together. There are walks available from the hotel itself and further routes nearby.
Dogs can also join you in selected dining areas, including the Atlas Room and Orangery, making it easier to enjoy your whole stay together.
While your dog relaxes after a countryside walk, you can make the most of the hotel’s Signet Spa, with a long list of features: an indoor hydrotherapy pool, heated outdoor pool, sauna, steam room, plunge pool, out door wood fired hot tubs, salt water floatation tank, and treatment rooms, and even a hair salon. Dogs are not welcome in the spa.
